A Community-Driven Leader, Dedicated to Student Success

Aarie J. Wade is a community leader, educator, and public servant committed to ensuring every student in Grand Rapids Public Schools has the opportunity to succeed. As a proud resident of Grand Rapids, Aarie understands that strong schools are the foundation of strong communities — and that our schools must be places where every child feels safe, supported, and seen. She believes in a student-centered approach that values the whole child, supports educators and staff, and creates systems of accountability that build trust and deliver results.

Aarie’s leadership is grounded in the belief that education is more than academics. It is about nurturing the whole child — supporting their social, emotional, and physical well-being while preparing them for a successful future. She advocates for resources and policies that prioritize mental health supports, equitable opportunities, strong family engagement, and safe learning environments. Aarie is committed to ensuring that every student, regardless of background, has access to high-quality instruction, supportive adults, and the tools they need to thrive.

Governance, Policy, Advocacy & Accountability

As a member of the Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education, Aarie’s work is rooted in governance, policy, advocacy, and accountability. She believes the board’s role is to set the vision, establish strong policy, and hold the district accountable for outcomes — while ensuring the district is transparent and responsive to families and staff. Aarie works to strengthen communication, build trust, and ensure decision-making is guided by student needs and community priorities. She is committed to protecting classroom integrity, supporting staff, and ensuring our district remains focused on what matters most — student success.

Championing Early Childhood & Out-of-School Time

Aarie’s work extends beyond the school board through her leadership at Baxter Community Center, where she is a champion for early childhood and out-of-school time opportunities. She understands the power of early learning to shape a child’s future, and she works to ensure families have access to high-quality early childhood programs and support services. Aarie also supports after-school and summer learning opportunities that provide safe spaces, enrichment, and mentorship for youth across our community. Her commitment is simple: every child deserves access to the resources that set them up for success — inside and outside the classroom.

A Strong Voice for Families & Staff

Aarie is a firm believer that our schools work best when families and staff are empowered and included in the process. She advocates for policies that support educators, strengthen staff retention, and create positive working environments. She also believes families deserve clear communication, transparency, and meaningful involvement in decisions that impact their children. Aarie is committed to being a visible, accessible, and accountable leader who listens first — and leads with courage and compassion.
